About…

<picture here >

The name of this particular blogger is Peter Bjørn Perlsø, and I am, at the time of writing, 26 years of age (make that 28, oh how time flies). I’m a resident and citizen of Denmark, Scandinavia, Northern Europe (…Earth, Sol, Western Galatic Arm, Local Cluster and all that…).

Who am I?

  • Im a … Pragmatic Geo-Libertarian / Classical Liberal, Atheist, Science geek, Anti-creationist, Computer nerd…

    Update (19th of March, 2008). I used to write some of the usual crap at great lengths about myself here, and while the above is generally a true description of myself, I’ve become wary of applying labels to one-self. The biggest problem is that you are not certain to have the same understanding of a given category or label as I have, and there is the seed of discord.

    So I’ll try to make it  short. Who am i and what do I want?

    A better world. Yawn, join the fucking club. So do just about 99% of all humans.

    Politics: I want a freer world. (Why? Because I know I function best in the free air, and I have the guts to claim that most other people do so too!). The west is relatively free, but not free enough, and besides, we’re headed in the wrong direction, which I believe you and I will both come to see in the coming decades. The Red Queen of Cybernetics - if you stand still, you’re falling behind. And we are.

    I’ve called myself anarchist in the past, and while i retain definite sympathies in that regard, I’m not sure I’m anymore an anarchist in a meningful sense. My primary mentation goes along the lines of what an anarchist society would at all look like, and if such a hypothetical society could at all exist for anything beyond a brief period of time. I mostlikely remain an philosophical anarchist (at least the way states exist and operate today), but thats a different beast.

    I’m a Geoist in the sense that I disagree that one person or a few persons should have title to what nature provided - namely material resources. I guess considerations in this area fall under considerations of freedom or lack of the same, but that is a long discussion as well.

    Science: I’ve been into various sciences since I was tall enough to reach up and grab my dad’s books on chemistry from the 2nd bookshelf from the floor. Since then, I’ve expanded my understanding of the fields of natural science (without any formal diplomas, however) and some insights I have acquired in the process is a dedication to truth. If ‘truth’ is too big a word to use, substitute with ‘facts’. Apply honesty (to both yourself and others) and rationality and you’re on the right road (according to my comapss at least). What is true is what works, and honest behavior tends to pay off better than dishonesty and treachery.

    I dislike ignorance (including my own), I frown on chosen ignorance and I despise the lie.

    Religion (or lack thereof): ‘Atheist’ may describe me pretty well. I don’t see any compelling reason to believe in any one or more gods. (God, evil, heaven, hell, are to me abstractions of human circumstances and states of mind.) I do however find inspiration from certain eastern religious/philosophical works, particularly Lao Tzu’s “Tao Te Ching”.

    Computers: Been a computer geek since I got my Commodore Amiga 500 in 1991. Got my first Mac in 1994. I’m gradually moving to Linux and other FOSS solutions.

    Other: I’m a big-time techno music buff (remember U96’s “Das Boot?”. How do you think I got to be this way?) and I like it best when the bass blasts so loud your ears start to bleed and your sneakers leave smouldering tracks on the dancefloor.
